Class parties: no glitter, ever

Cupcakes on the way out the door, and never hold the party on the last day.

With Tammy Striler · 1:40 · Filmed fall 2020

What to take away

  • No freaking glitter. Ever. It never leaves — it'll be in your eyes and on all of your clothes.
  • Hand the cupcakes out as the kids are leaving, so the sugar high goes home with them.
  • Never hold the party on the last day before a break or the last day of school.
  • Do it the day before: the kids help clean up, and your actual last day is mellow.

Why it works

Three hard-won logistics from thirty years of class parties. The last-day one is the real trick — at three o'clock on the final day everybody vanishes and you are alone with the wreckage.
