Thirty years, one open door
Tammy has been a teacher for three decades. For most of those years there was a student teacher in the back of her room, a first-year teacher down the hall who needed somebody to tell them it gets better, and a lunch table where the actual professional development happened.
None of it was ever written down. That’s the whole reason this site exists.
Why it exists
Teacher preparation programs are good at theory. They are not especially good at the Tuesday in November when a lesson dies in front of you, or the parent email you don’t know how to answer, or the quiet realization that you have been at school for eleven hours and haven’t eaten.
The teachers who work that out do it by watching somebody who already has. Tammy’s Teaching Tips is that, on video: veteran teachers explaining the things that actually moved the needle, in the plain language they’d use at that lunch table.
And increasingly it’s for parents, because the job quietly moved into their houses. Homework became a screen. Reading became a log to sign. Now AI is in the middle of it, and no one handed families a handbook.
The education system is not going to improve on its own. It improves when people who know how to teach put what they know into the hands of the people teaching next.

What we believe about the job
- Teaching is difficult, and saying so out loud is the first useful tip.
- It pays in emotional reward far more than financial — most of all when your children succeed.
- Nobody should have to reinvent classroom management alone in August.
- Parents are teachers now, whether or not they were trained for it.
- New methods and proven old ones both count. What matters is that they work.
